Assignment #2: Annotated Bibliography Final Draft

 For this assignment we chose a short story to read that would later be used for our short story project. In this assignment we had to look for credible sources from peer-reviewed journals to find quotes and sources to use in our project. This assignment helped with research and finding credible sources. My intended audience were my peers and instructor.

In this article Ted Bailey is talking about the fairness of “The Lottery”, since the Elite do not participate in the drawing. Bailey’s stance on this story, is that it is rigged, since the Elite get to pick a slip of piece of paper instead of being given one. This source is credible because it is in a peer-reviewed academic journal. I could use this source in my short story project to explain how the Lottery is unfair.

In this article, Hakaraia is explaining that very many critics have attempted to discover the meaning behind “The Lottery” but never dive deep enough to get to the real message. Hakaraia goes on to explain that Jackson deserves more praise for her story than what she is given, and explains that the story relies on economics, religion, and politics and how over time these systems become corrupted by their leaders. This source is credible because it is in a peer-reviewed academic journal. I can use this source in my short story project to explain how “The Lottery” deeper meaning is about government and their corrupt leaders.

Syam’s stance is that, in this story the Villagers believe that the stoning will free them, which is Syam says Pagan believes. I can use this source in my short story project to explain how Jackson used this story to convey a story of the holocaust in the US.
